Alternative Therapies For Stuttering And Stammering
OK, so you have tried the more traditional forms of speech and language therapy in your quest to eradicate your stutter but despite your best efforts it has not helped you to achieve your goal of fluency. So what are the available options now? Where now should or could you turn to continue your attempts to stop stuttering?
Before I continue to answer these questions I will introduce myself. I am Steve Hill, a speech coach from England. I am not a speech and language therapist and I do not want to be one. I offer an alternative therapy for stuttering and one that works.
I started to stutter when I was a four year old; there was no real trigger or reason as to why it had developed. I attended speech and language therapy via my local hospital. Even though it was of use it never offered me the opportunity to eradicate the stutter.
The majority of the speech and language therapists were nice enough people and certainly tried their best to help me; it was just that the training that they had been provided with was less than adequate.
There was one especially frustrating moment when I was speaking with a not so nice speech therapist. He told me that there was not a cure for stammering/stuttering. I replied:
“Fair enough. So what are you or the profession of speech and language therapy doing to find a cure?”
Speech therapist:
“Ermm, well nothing”
Me
“OK, that’s all very positive! NOT!”
For me the above example summed up my experience of speech therapy; I can only hope that the service has improved since my day!
I was eventually able to realise my dream of overcoming my stutter when I was aged 22 and as a career I now help other people to achieve fluency.
As stated earlier I offer the alternative therapy for stammering and stuttering.
I have a website at http://www.stutter-cure.com which has information about the types of therapy that I offer.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Why Do I Never Smile?
Growing up I had many things to be negative about, I had a stutter, I have a bald patch, I was overweight and am also quite short for a male at five foot four. I was one of the ones who walked around in a depressed state and I used to feel sorry for myself. Even when I write about it now, I laugh about how stupid I used to be.
I realised early into my twenties that I needed to change my approach to life. I was quite fortunate in that I had a friend at the company (a front doors supplier), I worked for, who was to prove an inspiration to me. His name was Stuart, and even though this may seem cruel, Stuart did not have a lot going for him. I won’t go into details but lets just say even with the problems I felt I had, I was not jealous of him. I became quite good friends with Stuart and we would regularly have lunch together.
I would meet him in the canteen at 1pm and would be waiting in my gloomy state of mind, with my gloomy face, for him to arrive. Arrive he certianly did, always with a beaming smile on his face. This always amazed me as I could never understand what he had to be happy about. Whilst eating our food we would discuss various topics and I soon noticed about just how positive he was about everything. When he talked, he talked with passion, about his work and interests. One day it dawned on me, if Stuart (who from what I know of him, seemingly has nothing going for him) can always be positive, happy and smiling, why can’t I?
This was the beginning of my new outlook on life. An era of being positive, appreciating what I have got and more than anything else, plenty of smiles. I now am happy with my weight, height, bald patch and am proud to say I have now overcome my stuttering speech impediment. I also have a new career which is to do with offering people cheap hotel deals.
I hope this article proves to be of inspiration to at least some of its readers.

How To Stop Stuttering
I found life with a stutter extremely frustrating as at times I could speak very well. I could talk to my partner without too many problems however could hardly speak a word when chatting to her family.
I was at a loss to comprehend why I could speak free from this speech impediment to person A but that I could not talk fluently to person B. I did attended various forms of stammering treatments but to no avail.
I read many books about speech imediments, achieving fluency and about how to stop stammering, about a potential stammering cure and spoke to many speech therapists. From what I read and from what I was told, I was made to believe that I was unable to live a stuttering-free life as it suggested you are unable to eradicate a stutter. This was not really the form of stammering advice that I was looking for; I wanted specialised therapy etc.
I was not exactly impressed with the negativity - I am a person who believes in the power of positive thinking.
I then was fortunate enough to watch Bruce Willis being interviewed on the television. He stated that he had had a stutter which had started when he was a young boy, however he had managed to achieve fluency when he was a late teenager. This was a huge inspiration to me and I then decided that I would attempt to overcome my own speech impediment.
After nearly a year of working very hard and with the help of watching a seventy minute DVD that I purchased from The How To Stop Stuttering Centre I was able to achieve fluency. I now have a much more fulfilling life and I also have a successful career selling front doors.
Stuttering can be overcome with hard work and a lot of desire; if I can do it then so could you.
