The website Psychitaric Times featured an article on the Center for Disease Control (CDC) study about the increasing antidepressant usage. This was considered alarming by the author because of the varying reviews and warnings on antidepressants such as Zoloft.
Zoloft is a medication for major depression (MDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, premenstrual dyphoric disorder (PMDD), panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Over the pst 15 years, a 400 percent increase in usage was noted by CDC. This is despite the warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration, medical researchers and institutions. This means that at present, 11 percent of the American population is taking one or more antidepressants.
In 2006, a warning was released by the FDA regarding the possible Zoloft-attributed birth defects including miscarriage, persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN), enlarged heart, delayed evelopment, cleft lip or palate, clubbed foot, craniosyntosis, spina bifida, neural tube defects, macroephaly, left outflow tract heart defects, septal heart defects, and gastrochisis.
The public health advisory says “FDA is advising health care professionals to discuss the potential risk of birth defects with patients who are taking Paxil and who plan to become pregnant or are in their first three months of pregnancy. Health care professionals should consider discontinuing Paxil (and switching to another antidepressant if indicated) in these patients. In some patients, the benefits of continuing Zoloft may be greater than the potential risk to the fetus. FDA is advising health care professionals to avoid prescribing Paxil in women who are in the first three months of pregnancy or who are planning pregnancy, unless other treatment options are not appropriate.”
The FDA found that antidepressants could make teenagers and children hostile, violent, irrational and suicidal, through analyzing results from 372 studies regarding the drug.
Moreover, the FDA in 2007 issued Zoloft warnings on the drug’s risk of increasing suicidal thoughts and behavior. The FDA ordered antidepressant manufacturers to label a “black box warning to the drug. Black box warnings are placed if the drug carries risk of a permanently-disabling, life threatening, or fatal side effect.
In 2008, the New England Journal of Medicine published a research study reflecting that antidepressant effectiveness has been misrepresented in US publications. It presented that studies reflecting antidepressant ineffectiveness were not normally published or were published with ambiguous results.
The July 2011 issue of Archives of General Psychiatry reflected the link between the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) to newborns with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This was featured on the website PRWeb on Novemeber 9, 2011.*
In addition to these warnings and reviews, medical reports from patients also include complaints about the negative side effects of the drug. This incited them to file Zoloft lawsuit against its manufacter, Pfizer.

Why Am I Always Depressed?
In the last few weeks I have taken the big step of talking to my mum and dad about my problems with depression. My mother has said that she thinks we have some kind of depression gene as most of our family suffer from similar symptoms.
I would like to start by making it clear that I do not work in the “depression” industry; I personally offer a DVD duplication service; training for foster carers and cheap holidays.
I have as recently as last week suffered with a severe bout of this depression, however from it I learnt a valuable lesson. I was in the middle of a stage in my life where just about all things were going what I call “pear shaped”. I had nothing to look forward to and decided that I needed a night out with my friends. There was one intention that I had in mind which was to get as drunk as possible.
I felt really bad when I awoke on the “morning after”. I was drained, tired and very crabby - I had drank far too much of the loopy juice. For the whole day I struggled to stay awake and as the day wore on I became more and more depressed. The negative side of my brain had taken over my whole head and it seemed like there was a whole bunch of negative chemicals running through my body~My head was suddenly thinking some rather bad thoughts - I just could not seem to get into any sort of positive frame of mind - negativity had taken over my body}.
The lesson I have learnt is that is not a good idea to go out drinking alcohol if you are feeling low and depressed.
I have to say that my mum and dad are in fact extremely astute people which makes me wonder why I did not seek their advice on a more often basis in the past. This turned out to be a perfect example of this as they once again gave me some top guidance. They wanted me to write a list of all of my worries and problems; the things that were causing me to spiral in and out of depression~They wanted me to write a list of all of my worries and problems; the things that were causing me to spiral in and out of depression}~They wanted me to write a list of all of my worries and problems; the things that were causing me to spiral in and out of depression}. What I then needed to do was to talk about them and to think positive by attempting to find solutions to each of these problems.
This is not at all easy to do but is something I now try. I have realised that it is good to talk about our fears and phobias and that there is nothing wrong with admitting that you are stressed and depressed.
I now try to think positive in all situations, life is far too short to be always worrying about everything. I have also started to read a lot of self-help books, these have taught me quite a lot of new things and have given me many new ideas.

There are numerous anxiety treatments available: some more efficient, others more expensive. Drugs seem like the easy solution to put a stop to panic attacks but the alleviation is temporary and the discomfort is back at the end of the treatment. Psychotherapy brings most of the hopes and solutions in terms of anxiety treatments but it is pretty costly and lengthy. Anxiety treatments also rely on self help and self-soothing, which seems like a good support for the therapy you receive in the company of a professional. Lifestyle changes could also be necessary for the emotional healing background, and they are most of the time a must in the recovery process that an anxiety patient goes through.
Then, there are people who have found the solution to their problem through an alternative therapeutic approach to anxiety. It is thus common sense to choose the method that brings the best of results. Most such anxiety treatments focus on relaxation, and although the techniques are different, they converge towards the same finality: a better state of mind, worry-free and calm. Thus, the repetition of positive assertions, visualization exercises, aromatherapy, yoga, reflexology, massage and acupressure could play a successful part in limiting the frequency of the panic attacks.
Self treatment is possible and in fact encouraged by specialists who believe that the approach to this nervous condition has to be constant and persistent. Anxiety treatments that rely only on psychotherapy, create the therapist-patient bond that makes the anxiety sufferer dependent on another person for help. Unfortunately, the expert is not always available, and panic may crawl back into your life when you least expect it. Therefore, a major part of therapy should emphasize the patient’s ability to get in control of his/her mind and thus prevent anxiety attacks.
Avoid random and frequent switches of anxiety treatments. The whole point is to be persistent in one particular method and use it on a constant and efficient basis. You should try new things if you consider that it is not working or when the condition reaches a stagnation point. All in all, anxiety treatments should not be chosen lightly and without some professional assistance too. Some therapists are more open to cooperation with other complementary treatments than others: it is therefore a good idea to have a certain flexibility in the approach to the ailment.
Do you want to avoid from anxiety? One of the important things you need to do is to do sport likes tennis routinely. If you want to enjoy playing tennis, you need to find the best equipment like kettler table tennis and table tennis conversion top for your need.

Social Anxiety Disorder Treatment - Little Known Techniques That Are Totally Drug Free
Panic attack treatment. You might be wondering if one exists. A drug free treatment.
I can tell you a drug free treatment is definitely possible. It’s not exactly a “cure” but as near as you will get. It’s not like you can take a pill and cure them for good. But you can learn to stop them for good.
A motorcycle spill caused me to have panic attacks for ages after. I tried all sorts of drugs to keep them at bay. Nothing worked properly, plus I knew as soon as I came off the drugs any benefit would be lost.
This is the bad thing about drugs and panic attacks. If you even do get some benefit, it’s lost when you stop the drugs. And no doctor worth their salt will want to keep you on prolonged medication.
A worrying thought, but you will have to go ‘cold turkey’ at some point in your future. And the anxiety will be back. And usually worse because you know damn well they are coming back with a vengeance.
In an ideal world a treatment for social anxiety disorders without drugs would be readily available. It may please you to know that it does exist and that it works very well for me. I have total control over my anxiety attacks now.
I was once stuck in a hole just waiting for the next random attack. Well, not so much random with me because I know what triggers my attacks. If I’m in a crowd or group of about three to four people I can feel an attack starting.
It got so bad with me I would run for my life if I got near a small group of people. I did realise that it was all in my head, there was no “real” danger. No matter, when I felt the panic rise, I was off like a jack rabbit.
I did a lot of searching for a long time, hopefully for a miracle cure to stop these attacks. But the wait (although long and painful) was worth it. Sadly none of the medical professionals I saw had any knowledge of the “cure” I found.
You can keep on keeping on with your anxiety and your medication. Or decide to take thing in your own hands and check out what I put into action when an attack looms. I simply put what I learned into action and kill it dead in its tracks.
You can learn how I do it by clicking here to go to my site.
