Lemon Cake Was Refreshing In Summer
Carol had spent a half hour going through cook books and cake decorating books. She still couldn’t locate the one she wanted for her summer picnic. It would be all picnic food, hot dogs, burgers and bratwurst with all the trimmings. The picnic would take place, however, right out on the patio. Their new patio set looked like the perfect color to have on the gray brick patio.
She loved the petunias and pansies this year. They were incredibly bright. It didn’t take all that long to plant them along the side of the patio either. It only took scooping them out of their little plastic containers and planting into the soft ground. They came in little plastic cartons, similar to egg cartons.
The blooming flowers and the neatly trimmed grass were perfect. Watered and trimmed bushes added to the scene. It would be a perfect family reunion out on the patio. She wanted to show her family all the improvements they had finished in and out of the house.
Closing the garage door, she hopped on her Schwinn mountain bike for a trip to the grocery store. She put on her large backpack that she used for carrying groceries. She often rode her bike to the grocery store. It saved gas and was good for the environment too. She thought about the lack of green space in many parts of the country.
Her dedication to recycling included buying her food in recycled paper cartons and biodegradable plastic containers. The last bag of potato chips she bought had been sold in a biodegradable bag. Some other biodegradable materials had been around for some time. It was mandatory in many states.
It would be of great benefit to the environment to have a plastic water bottle that was biodegradable. So many people carried a small water bottle around made to be disposable. Everyone knew it was healthy to stay hydrated during any form of exercise or sports.
She felt happy about her decision and of the day she spent buying mountain bike. It was fast and light and looked slick going down the road. It exactly matched the blue helmet she bought. On weekends she now had no trouble riding up inclines on longer trips. She wore sunglasses, sunscreen and carried her water and a small cloth for wiping her sweaty forehead.
Her wish to remain healthy included donating money to save the rain forests. Al Gore was right. People had to find a way to save the planet and stop global warming. Let people laugh, however, their grandchildren would suffer if something wasn’t done to stop depleting the rain forests. She donated to humane animal shelters too. She thought of the adorable puppies and kittens on the rest of her ride to the store.
