Swimming And Muscular Strength
Swimming, just like any other exercise, [helps/aids in] increase the strength and endurance of one’s muscles. Depending on how slow or fast you swim, you can have a good cardiovascular work-out or slowly build your muscle strength and endurance. Every time you swim, all the muscles in your body becomes involved. The resistance that your body receives as each bodily movement comes into contact with the pool water amplifies the strength and endurance of your muscles thus you tend to get a lean and fit body regardless of how fast or how many laps you swim in a day.
Fitness experts, on the other hand, say that swimming is not enough to increase the entire body’s muscular endurance and strength. The reason behind it is that swimming does not involve too much of the lower body muscles compared to the upper body muscles. Also, swimming is a low-impact exercise which is why it is excellent for rehabilitation exercises but not great for maintaining bone density.
Fitness experts recommend that individuals who are interested in increasing their muscular strength should do land-based strength and weight training exercises, namely tricep kick backs, wide arm press-up, bench press, shoulder press, reverse fly, one-arm row, breast stroke, normal fly, lateral raise, biceps curl, lateral raise, close arm press-ups, and tricep dips. One-leg squat, bent leg raises, moving squats, side-leg raise, toe touch opposite hand, pulsing abductors, deep squats, wall squat, standing rear squat, pulsing hip extension, static adductors, and front raised lunge are the other techniques.
Always keep in mind to properly warm-up before beginning a series of exercise or even swimming techniques. It is advisable that you perform the land-based exercise at least two days per week. In case this is your first time to exercise, allow your body to rest - don’t overdo it, if your body feels sore don’t do any exercise routine until the soreness has lessened or is completely gone.
Always double check that the pool has been treated using swimming pool chemicals and that the appropriate treatment time has elapsed before you begin your swimming routine. Private and public swimming pools do make use of pool chemicals to help maintain the pool in its original state and to keep the water clean and hygienic. Every pool, whether public or private, have filtration systems installed. This together with pool chlorine tablets provides you with a swimming pool that is both safe and fun.
