What Is The Secret Of Charisma?
The world is divided into followers and leaders. This is as true in the world of fashion just as it is in politics or business. The girl who knows the secrets is the one who sets the trends. When others are buying high heels, she buys brown boots and starts a new trend.
It’s not just a matter of bucking the trends, it’s the attitude that goes with it that counts. The girl who wears the boots and sets the trend is not the same girl who wears boots because she’s clueless. She’s the one who knows what’s in and appreciates it, but decides to make a bold statement nonetheless.
When everybody else is carrying hobo handbags, she is carrying a snakeskin clutch bag. When the others see her with a hobo, they buy those. Why does this happen? What’s the secret behind her charisma?
No, it’s not because of her good looks. In fact, the most famous fashion models are rarely the most beautiful ones. In fact, they are other the least classically beautiful. It’s their attitude that makes them attractive, not their looks. Sometimes they even succeed by flaunting their flaws, like the model who decides to leave the gap between her teeth instead of having it fixed.
The reason why these models and other women like them are the ones we follow probably is connected with the fact that we all have flaws, but are ashamed of them. There is something liberating about these models. They tell us it’s okay to just be ourselves and not worry about what everybody else thinks.
When models like these endorse a perfume, women run to buy the perfume. Like magic, a dab of the perfume changes the buyer into someone more like the model. Her confidence is lifted a little bit. It may be based on an illusion, but that’s how fashion works.
The word glamor, as a matter of fact, originally meant ‘a witch’s spell.’ It’s like having a magic potion or wand. With a flick of the wrist or a dab of potion, suddenly women everywhere want to wear shirts for girls. When another spell is cast, something else becomes all the rage.
Still, no one yet has put their finger on exactly how the magic of charisma works, though they’ve been trying to uncover its secrets for years. One woman’s gapped teeth are riveting and become her trademark. Another woman, equally good looking, simply has a gap between her teeth. If charisma could be packaged and sold, somebody would make a fortune.
