Trabajo In order to bring law and order to this wild town of the west, several lawmen were brought in to keep the peace. One of the most famous of those was “Wild Bill” Hickok.

Abilene still honors the memory of “Wild Bill” in several different ways, the main one being the “Wild Bill Hickok ” which is held every year in August. This began in 1946 and has grown into a well known and well attended in Kansas.

The Wild Bill Hickok was named one of the Top 5 small outdoor rodeos in the nation in 1995 and again in 2001. In 2002 it was voted to the Top 5 list of large outdoor rodeos in the nation and still maintains that ranking.

The 63rd Annual Wild Bill Hickok will be held in Abilene this year from July 31 to August 2, 2008. This PRCA features a grand entry, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping, women’s barrel racing, and bull riding. Over 500 cowboys and cowgirls compete for over $37,500 in added prize money, plus entertaining specialty acts between events you can be published without charge.
